Ollie Paul Vinson of Brunswick, Ga., died Jan. 5, 2004, at S.E. Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Taylors United Methodist Church with the Rev. Franklin Griffith of Augusta, Ga., officiating.

 

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marlene G. Vinson of Brunswick; a daughter, Cynthia Vinson of Brunswick; two sons, Donald Walter Vinson and Paul R. Vinson both of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Marietta Turner of N. Augusta, S.C., and Rachel White of St. Augustine, Fla.; a brother, John Felton Vinson of Saratoga, Calif.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Active pallbearers will be Russell Turner, Walter Goodbread, Jimmy Goodbread, Chuck Outland, Richard P. Hill, Gene Hale, Jr., Stephen M. Hill and Paul Nathan Wilson.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be Ashton Caleb Vinson, Richard Law, Richard J. Vinson, Dr. Herman Levy, Dr. Marsha Certain, ER Nurses at S.E. Georgia Regional Medical Center, the staff of Palmetto Florist, Butch Boyette, Levi Thomas, Mary Bratcher, Gladys Rowe and Richard T. Brunegraff.

 

A native of Brunswick, Ga., he had been a resident of Houston, Texas and Augusta, Ga., until his return to Brunswick in July of 2003. He was a 1958 Honor Graduate of Glynn Academy. He was employed as a food distribution Salesman with Toms Food Co. He was a member of the Leukemia Society of America, and a member of the St. Jude's Childrens Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and a volunteer fireman with the Ballard Fire Dept. Mr. Vinson helped establish the Golden Bazaar indoor Flea Market in Lanier Plaza. He recently sponsored fundraisers at the Bazaar to benefit both the Diabetes Foundation and the American Heart Association. He was a member of Taylors United Methodist Church.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home and request memorial contributions be made to St. Judes Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
