GLYNN COUNTY, GA – Late Saturday afternoon the Glynn County Fire Department was
notified about a house fire in the Touchstone subdivision. Crews from station 8
responded approximately one mile and reported heavy fire visible upon arrival.
In
addition to the crew from station 8, apparatus from station 1 responded as well
as the fire departments’ volunteer firefighters. A tanker was also dispatched
to the scene as there are no hydrants in the area.
Initial
reports indicated that there was possibly someone still inside the residence and
with one end not involved in fire an interior search for any remaining
inhabitants was performed while an interior attack from the same end was in
operation.
Shortly
after personnel reported that they had not made contact with any victims it was
determined that everyone was accounted for and that there was nobody inside.
Fire suppression operations continued with crews taking a defensive stance and
extinguishing the fire from outside the remaining structure.
Firefighters quickly gained the upper hand, for as much fire as they found, and
battled the blaze for approximately 15 minutes before putting the fire under
control. Firefighters remained on scene for some time extinguishing hot spots
and performing overhaul operations.
There
were no injuries as a result of the fire and the cause is under investigation.
