A house fire in Glynn County sent a
mother and her son to the hospital Thursday and left the house uninhabitable.
Firefighters were dispatched to 109
Yorkshire Drive shortly after 3 p.m., where they found the Mobley Family
outside.
Joseph Mobley, 14, was taken by
ambulance to the Brunswick hospital of Southeast Georgia Health System to be
treated for smoke inhalation. His mother, Lisa Mobley, went to the hospital
later.
Carly Mobley, Joseph’s older sister,
said her brother is asthmatic.
Carly Mobley watched with teary eyes
from a neighbor’s yard as firefighters walked through the burned remains of what
was a family home. “We are a destitute family. We have nothing now,” Carly
Mobley said.
Lisa Mobley, who uses oxygen, said
she thinks the fire started when gas remaining in the tube of her machine
ignited when she lit a cigarette.
Exterior damage to the house was
minimal, but firefighters said the house was unlivable.
The American Red Cross was called and
is providing food, shelter and clothing for the family.

“This is a very devastating thing,”
said Rita Brookshire, emergency services director of the Glynn County unit of
the Red Cross.
Motel rooms were arranged for the
family for Thursday night with more aid to come, as needed.
Donations to help the family can be
made to the Red Cross and should designated as being for the Mobley Family,
Brookshire said.
