High winds keep firefighter jumping

GLYNN COUNTY, GA – Saturday became very busy for Glynn County fire fighters.  Their mid-afternoon routine was disrupted when the department was dispatched to a marsh fire that was moving quickly and threatening homes in the Marshes of McKay subdivision located in northern Glynn County.

Personnel arriving on scene reported that the gusty winds were an issue and that they needed additional personnel and apparatus to respond.  Personnel and equipment were distributed along a section of marsh to provide protection to the residences.

The shifting winds kept personnel hopping from one area to another as the fire changed direction several times.  With the fire inaccessible the only option was to let it burn to them and protect the property once it reached the edge of the marsh.

At the end of the day all of the residences were saved and there were no injuries as a result of the fire.
