GLYNN COUNTY, GA – Everybody loves
fire trucks; this was evident Saturday, April 5, when the Glynn County Fire
Department was asked to have a presence at multiple events during the day.
On Saint Simons Island the department
was asked to assist with a parade to raise autism awareness. This parade called
“A Walk in the Park for Autism” was being organized by the Triumph Foundation
for Autism. Engine 32 led the parade that went from Mallory Park to Neptune
Park. Once at the destination participants and spectators had the opportunity
to participate in fun and games for the remainder of the day.
On the Mainland, the department was
also mobilizing some educational resources as well as apparatus from station 1.
This event, part of a kid’s day at Home Depot proved to be fun for all with a
turnout that surprised the organizers. In addition to the personnel on hand,
the department sent Engine 1, Ladder Tower 1, Squad 1, along with Freddie the
Fire Truck and some clowns. The department provided the opportunity for
participants to learn about fire safety and allowed the children to sit in the
apparatus.
Both events were a huge success and
provided people the opportunity to get to know some of the public safety
personnel that protect them every day.
