GLYNN COUNTY, Ga.- The Glynn County
Fire Department is currently in the process of placing blue markers in the
roadways and reflective tape on fire hydrants to assist in locating hydrants
during emergencies.
The Department is also in the process
of clearing vegetation and other obstructions to give us a 3-foot clearance
around the hydrants, as required by National Fire Codes. These codes
dictate that a minimum of three feet of clearance around all hydrants and
unimpeded access must be in place for fire department access. Hydrants
should be visible from the roadway so they easily be spotted in an emergency.
Due to the value of plants, fences,
and other obstructions that property owners / residents may have placed around
the hydrants, the fire department is asking property owners / residents to
assist in their respective neighborhoods to spread the word. The fire
department is requesting that property owners / residents remove all
obstructions so their plants and other items can be saved. The department
requests that this be accomplished by the end of April, 2008. After that
time, the fire department will begin clearing around the fire hydrants in order
to meet codes.
Your assistance in accomplishing this
task will be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please
contact, Chief A. L. Thomas.
