ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA – The Glynn
County Fire Department responded to a report of an aircraft down at Malcolm
McKinnon airport Wednesday shortly before 1:00 pm.
Personnel from fire station 2 located
near the airport, along with local law enforcement personnel arrived on scene to
find a 1998 single engine Beechcraft Bonanza A36 nose down where it came to rest
after making a hard landing.
Reportedly the high gusts experienced
that day, near 30 mph, contributed to the accident which left the nose gear
broken and resulted in the propeller being bent.
Deputy Chief Jim Cochran remained in
command of the incident until turning the scene over to the airport commission
for further investigation.
There were no injuries as a result of
the accident.
