GLYNN COUNTY, GA – Saturday November
10 brought to an end a very busy week for the volunteer division of the Glynn
County Fire Department, not fighting fires or dealing with other emergencies,
but helping spread joy and fire prevention at the local fair.
Carrying on with a public relations
opportunity started 5 years ago. Volunteer personnel have been on stand-by
manning a display all week at the Brunswick Exchange Club Fair.
Volunteer personnel have been
promoting fire safety, providing information about the Department and passing
out over 750 balloons with fire safety messages on them.
In addition to the responsibilities
of manning the display, volunteers where on hand to assist Paramedics in the
event of any medical emergency that may have occurred at the fairgrounds.
While the balloons where undoubtedly
our biggest hit, parents and children alike enjoyed getting to sit in the
Departments’ 1951 fire engine. Many parents took photographs of their children
sitting behind the steering wheel of a real fire engine.
This years’ fair seemed by some to be
one of the busiest fairs in recent years. Hopefully, the fairs’ popularity will
translate to more people being made aware of some simple fire safety tips along
with the importance of having an emergency escape plan for their home and
practicing it.
