GLYNN COUNTY, GA – Tuesday brought
the end to the annual Related Vocational Instruction (RVI) State conference on
Jekyll Island.
This year, Tuesday also marked the
day that the Glynn County Fire Department was presented a hand crafted table by
one of the RVI students.
Juan Sanchez, a 17 year old sophomore
at Wayne County High in Jesup, Georgia presented the table in appreciation for
the dedication and support that the Glynn County Fire Department has shown for
the RVI program over the years.
The table, hand crafted from steel in
a metal working and welding class, depicted a horse drawn steam engine
responding through the streets of a city to a fire. This table took
approximately two months for Juan to complete and received first place in the
state competition held during the RVI conference on Jekyll.
Chief Thomas accepted the table on
behalf of the Department and assured Juan Sanchez that it was greatly
appreciated and would receive a great deal of use at the station replacing a
much older and worn table.
Following the presentation department
personnel studied the piece and commented on the degree of detail that Juan had
put into the table.
One firefighter commented that the
table was almost “firefighter proof” indicating that the only thing that was
breakable was the glass top.
