Public safety officials say an unattended burning logs in a fireplace caused extensive damage to a Glynn County home.

The fire at 8 Magnolia St. in Brunswick was reported Friday at 8:47 p.m. It took half an hour for firefighters to extinguish the blaze, according to the Glynn County Fire Department.

Damage to the home is estimated at $41,000.

Fire officials said the occupant of the home left the fire unattended to pick up a relative.
