GLYNN COUNTY, GA - A very
eventful 4th of July this year for the Glynn County Fire Department for both
paid and volunteer personnel. Several parades, fireworks stand-bys and the
youth fire safety house were just some of the activities being participated in
by the fire department personnel.
This year Engine 32 a retired
1952 Fire Engine was the Grand Marshall in two parades one at Sea Island and the
other in the Sea Palms Community. Engine 32 led the way of both parades
and set the patriotic mood with a large American Flag flying, old fashioned
lights and siren blazing through the large crowds gathered along the streets.
There were many waves and smiles with a few salutes thrown in as the historical
engine rolled by.
Both career and volunteer
personnel were present at the shooting of the fireworks at the St. Simons Island
pier and Sea Island beach club to help maintain the safety and security of the
patrons, homes and businesses in the fall out areas. There were no reported
incidents and the shows went off with out a hitch.
Prior to the fireworks shows
patrons observed the space shuttle Discovery lift off. While several
hundred miles away the shuttle was clearly visible and was an added highlight to
the days events. Also, a third parade took place in the village on St.
Simons prior to the fireworks show.
Also present at the St. Simons
pier was the youth Fire Safety House used to educate children in fire safety.
Children are allowed to experience a smoke filled environment caused by a smoke
machine and are instructed how to get out safely according to the skills taught
just prior to the filling of smoke in the fire house. Fire education
pamphlets and paperwork are handed out to both the children and the parents
alike to further inform them on what to do in the unlikely event of a fire in
there own home.
The Glynn County Fire Department
showed strong this 4th of July helping to make this holiday another safe one for
the record books.
