ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA – National Fire Prevention Week set an appropriate stage for a dedication ceremony of a new fire station in Glynn County.  Station 2 located on Demere Road was dedicated Wednesday October 12, 2005.

The personnel of station 2 along with others spent the morning getting ready for the dedication ceremony, which began at 11:30 am.

On display during the ceremony was engine 32, one of the first fire engines that the Glynn County Fire Department owned.  Engine 32 was one of the first engines to be in service at the old station 2 located about 2 miles down Demere Road.  In addition to the old engine newer apparatus were also on display.

As with all dedication ceremonies there were several distinguished guests and speakers.  Members of the Glynn County Fire Department, Glynn County Police Department were present as well as several County and City Commissioners.  Also present were members Brunswick Fire Department along with members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, which will have an office in the building.

Chief Thomas spoke about tradition and the memories of station 2 during the dedication ceremony.  Glynn County Commissioner Cap Fendig and Carl Johnson both spoke at the dedication.  The commissioners both commended the SPLOST sales tax for providing the necessary funding for the new station.

Following the speakers the Glynn County Fire Departments’ color guard presented and raised the US flag symbolizing the official opening of the new station.  In addition to the Fire Station the St. Simons Police precinct and a community meeting room are located in the building.

The volunteer division of the Glynn County Fire Department provided the refreshments that were enjoyed by all in attendance.  Tours of the station were provided to all interested.
