ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA – Over the last
several days the personnel of fire station 2 have been on the move.
Station personnel have been moving
supplies and records from the old station 2 into the new station 2. The move is
one that has been difficult for many department personnel due to the memories
that the old station provided.
This move took several days to
complete with many of the furnishings being refinished by department and station
personnel.
In a small ceremony around lunch on
Friday September 12, 2005 the flags were lowered and the old station closed,
bringing to an end over 50 years of service to the community from this location.
Shortly after the flags were raised
at the new station and was deemed operational with a dedication ceremony planned
for October 12, 2005.
