STERLING, GA – Tuesday night
Department personnel received hands-on training in an unlikely location.
Both volunteer and career personnel
participated in a salvage and overhaul training exercise at Glynn County Fire
Station #3. Department personnel donned full protective clothing including self
contained breathing apparatus and proceeded to selectively remove the gypsum
board ceiling of the station while leaving in place the lights and support
structure of the ceiling.
While some personnel where practicing
their overhaul techniques using pike poles, closet hooks, and sheet rock hooks,
others where involved with salvage operations utilizing salvage covers and
tarps.
The Departments’ volunteer auxiliary
personnel established a rehab area to keep personnel hydrated and monitored the
well-being of all of the personnel participating in the exercise.
By the end of the exercise, the
ceiling in the day room and kitchen area had been removed. Personnel
participating had honed their salvage and overhaul techniques as well as tool
handling skills.
