ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA - Tuesday night
local fire fighters where auctioned off to raise money for the shop with a fire
fighter program that the Glynn county Fire Department has organized the last
several years. Brian Smith, a former firefighter himself, and owner of Teazers
Bar and Grill provided the location and atmosphere for the event.
Seventeen firefighters, both career
and volunteer, participated in the auction. All of the fire fighters that
participated are local to Glynn County and many are affiliated with the Glynn
County Fire Department.
Bidding on the perspective
firefighters started at $20.00, with the high bid going for Mike Guenther
bringing in $200.00 for the cause. The event netted the “Shop with a
Firefighter” program a total of $1,124.00 which will be added to additional
funds already raised. While everyone knew who was auctioned, the details of the
“date” where between the firefighter and the winning bidder.
Event organizers, Beth Ann Poppell,
Angie and Greg Driggers, all felt that the event was a success and would
definitely do again. Lt. Poppell stated that this was the fourth year that the
Department participated in the “Shop with a Firefighter” program and that with
the proceeds from the auction that this will be their best year yet.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to
the “Shop with a Firefighter” program is asked to contact either Captain Tommy
Dixon or Lieutenant Beth Ann Poppell at the Glynn County Fire Department.
Since the auction many positive
things have been heard about it and will undoubtedly be the beginning of several
to come in the future.
