GLYNN COUNTY, GA – Tuesday, May 24 the spring 2005 volunteer fire school class was recognized by the Glynn County Fire Department at a graduation ceremony.  The graduation ceremony was held Tuesday night at the headquarters station.

Captain Poppell started the graduation ceremony off and turned the floor over to Chief Thomas who said some encouraging words for the graduating class.  Volunteer Chief Combs also had some words to share with all present.  Chief Combs stated that “with several other departments present during the smoke house exercises that he was proud of how well our Department performed.”

Each member of the Spring 2005 Volunteer Fire School was presented with certificates for the satisfactory completion of the class.  The students Bill Brown, Mike Guenther, Jay Putnam, Diane Walters, Jeff Woodward, and Garrett Wright were each called up to receive their certificate.

After presenting the students with awards the guests and other department personnel were given the opportunity to speak to the class.  Following a couple of comments the class asked for an opportunity to speak.  Volunteer Jeff Woodward spoke on behalf of the remainder of the class when they presented a plaque to the Department for its support and plaques to Capt. Joe Poppell and Volunteer Chief Combs for their unselfish dedication and commitment in putting on the class.

Following the presentation of certificates everyone was treated to a slide show, by firefighter Rene Dove, depicting images of the past several weeks’ activities and training sessions.  The slides included images of many of the exercises that the class participants took part in.

Following the slide show all present shared in a good meal and camaraderie with friends and family.  The Department welcomed the addition of these new structural firefighters.
