GLYNN COUNTY, GA - Tuesday morning at
approximately 9:30 am the Glynn County Fire Department was alerted about a
residential structure fire. Department personnel, apparatus and volunteers were
dispatched to a residence that was heavily involved.
First arriving units reported a
single story wood frame residence fully involved with heavy fire and smoke
showing. Units responding from other areas of the county reported seeing a
large plume of black smoke rising from the area.
As the initial attack began a tanker
was also dispatched to insure adequate water supply as this area does not have a
municipal water system or hydrants. The initial assault on the fire involved
multiple attack lines.
As personnel made entry the family
dog exited the structure and remained in the back yard for the duration of the
fire suppression operations. As personnel advanced through the residence they
found the fire concentrated in the rear of the house with extension into the
attic. The fire, while progressing rapidly, was quickly knocked down.
Department personnel worked on
extinguishing all hot spots and insured that no extension was overlooked. One
apparatus remained on scene for a fire watch to insure that there was no
rekindle.
There were no injuries to personnel
or occupants reported as a result of the blaze, however, the family cat was not
as fortunate, and passed during the blaze. The cause of the fire is under
investigation.
