BRUNSWICK, GA – Career and volunteer personnel begin training with rope rescue gear in preparation for the arrival of a GSAR unit later this year.

The class primarily focused on aspects of ascending a rope with the appropriate equipment.  Personnel equipped with NFPA/OSHA class III full body harnesses, helmet, rope rescue gloves.  They received hands on experience with ascending using rope ascenders and gained knowledge of the safety and redundancy involved with rope rescue.

As this was an introduction personnel ascended a short distance to the bottom of one of the departments’ aerial platforms, LT-1.  Future classes will include techniques in repelling from both the aerial platform as well as from stationary structures.  A much more in-depth class on rope rescue techniques is planned in the near future.
