BRUNSWICK, GA – During the week of
October 19-23, 2004 the Brunswick Exchange Club hosted its annual fair. The
Exchange club fair features rides for all ages, agricultural displays, a
demolition derby on Saturday, and indoor exhibits and displays from local
businesses and civic groups.
Among those displays was the
volunteer division of the Glynn County Fire Department along with dispatchers
from the Glynn-Brunswick 911 center.
Volunteer personnel and 911
dispatchers worked the fair exhibit for a total of 188.5 man-hours during its
week long stay in Brunswick. During the week the Fire / 911 display promoted
fire safety, volunteerism and provided an opportunity for youth to use a 911
simulator to practice making 911 emergency calls. In addition to fire safety
literature, contact information for the Department’s ‘Guardian Angle’ program
was available as well as free smoke detectors for those requesting and needing
them.
An Exchange club member stated that
this was one of their best years, with an estimated 28,000 people visiting the
2004 Exchange Club fair during the week this proved to be an excellent forum for
spreading the word about fire safety to the community. |
