Glynn County Fire Department - another successful fire prevention week…

By: Joe Combs

October 25, 2004

BRUNSWICK, GA – During the week of October 4-9, 2004 fire prevention week is observed nation wide.  Most fire departments have some sort of activity planned during the week.

In Glynn County, the Glynn County Fire Department sets up a week long display at Colonial Mall at Glynn Place.  This year was no different, beginning Monday every evening from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and all day Saturday personnel with the fire department as well as dispatchers manned the store.

In addition to the displays of fire prevention memorabilia personnel provided free blood pressure checks and an opportunity for children to practice 911 emergency calls using a 911 simulator.  Saturday brought several puppet shows and rapid dress demonstrations within the mall along with live demonstrations using fire apparatus outside the mall.  Saturday was especially successful due to magic 105.9 providing a remote broadcast live from the demonstration area.

Personnel put in over 500 hours during the week, sharing fire prevention information to approximately 440 people that came through the store and taking 38 blood pressures.
