Once on location at the Buck Swamp Road incident firefighters rapidly deployed lines to extinguish the fires accessible from the exterior of the building while other crews made an interior attack.  The timbers in the crawl space are heavily involved.

GLYNN COUNTY, GA - Sunday was a busy day in Glynn County for State, county, and City firefighters.  Throughout the day firefighters battled several structure and brush fires.  Sunday evening started like any other for Glynn County firefighters.  Radio check was conducted at the usual time, and everyone went on about their regular duties and activities.

That’s when things started to heat up.  At about 8:00 pm headquarters and station 6 were dispatched to a confirmed residential structure fire on Myers Hill Road.  While in route, units were informed, by dispatch, that the structure was fully involved.  The on duty Deputy Chief called for all the volunteers to be notified to respond and for a tanker to respond to provide water supply as the area is without hydrants.

Upon arrival, units confirmed that the structure was fully involved and that fire was spreading toward the neighboring woods.  These units also confirmed that they would need the tanker.  Personnel deployed several attack lines to extinguish the fire.  The department committed approximately 28 career and volunteer personnel to the scene.

The residence was found to be unoccupied at the time of the fire with furnishing and other personal belongings present.  Firefighters completed the extinguishment of the fire and where in the process of overhaul when the second fire was radioed in by department personnel returning from brush fires in the area.

Personnel left the Myers Hill fire scene, leaving a skeletal crew behind to finish overhaul, and quickly responded the estimated 3 miles to the second structure fire on Buck Swamp Road.

Personnel arrived to find the second structure be unoccupied and in the process of being remodeled.  The fire had progressed into the attic and crawl spaces.  This second fire was quickly extinguished due to the rapid response of personnel and equipment.

The cause of the Myers Hill Fire, which resulted in a total loss, is believed to have been caused accidentally by a kerosene heater.  The cause of the Buck Swamp Road fire is being investigated.  The two fires while close to each other appear to be unrelated.  There were no injuries reported as a result of either fire.  The department went on to have a relatively quite night.
