GLYNN COUNTY, GA - Saturday, February 21 the St. Simons Island Volunteers
participated in the third annual Mardi-Gras celebration at Redfern Village.
On hand was the antique fire engine number thirty-two. Volunteers showed off
the restored 1952 Chevrolet pumper that has been part of the department for over
fifty years.
The celebrations included displays for the many different merchants and
organizations showcasing the different shops. Redfern's Mardi-Gras also included
a mini-parade with several floats and the traditional bead throwing to the
crowds gathered around the parade route.
"Freddy the Fire Truck" also made an appearance entertaining the kids and
parents alike. The remote control truck is used in fire education for kids.
Once again the Glynn County Fire Department made a strong showing in the
community.
