SIMONS ISLAND - Legendary folk singer/song-writer Glenn
Yarbrough exchanged tradition with the extraordinary in a
Christmas program called "The Forgotten Carols"
Monday, December 22 at the Strickland Auditorium located
at Epworth by the Sea. This performance is intended
to benefit the Glynn County and Brunswick Fire and Police
departments, the Salvation Army, Costal Mentors, Mary
House, Health Families and FOCUS Ministries.
Though
most Christmas songs are about proclaiming faith,
Yarbrough asserts that this collection is all about
acquiring faith. He contends that those who grew up
feeling unloved and sad around the holiday season will get
the most out of this unique performance.
Beginning
with an exceptional recording accompanied by the New
Renaissance Choir, composed of local musicians, Glenn
Yarbrough shared the message of "The Forgotten
Carols". Designed for smaller more intimate
venues, "The Forgotten Carols" is a Christmas
story told through unconventional songs and narration that
was written by Michael McLean.
Constance
Chamberlain doesn't like Christmas. For this humorless
but efficient nurse, the holiday is overdone and
excessive—a meaningless distraction. But when she is
assigned to provide home care for an elderly gentleman
over the holidays, she is introduced to his “forgotten
carols,” which will forever change how she feels about
Christmas.
The
program began with Terry Lorenz, of FOCUS ministries,
thanking all who came and introducing Glynn County Police
Chief Matt Doering. Chief Doering began by
introducing the City of Brunswick Police Interim Chief
Edna Johnson, Chief Doering proceeded to introduce the
interim Chief for the Glynn County Fire Department, Al
Thomas, and the Brunswick Fire Chief Lee Stewart.
Following the introduction of the chiefs, Doering
continued to introduce the choir and Glenn Yarbrough.
Personnel
from the Glynn County Fire Department were on hand to
provide information about fire safety. Additionally,
personnel assisted with the collection of the donated
goods collected at the door.
