The
Glynn County Fire Department is saddened to report that
Lt. Pete Walters Jr., a fire Lt. For the Glynn County Fire
Department passed away Friday, August 22, 2003. He
was 41 and had worked for the department for the past 23
years. He was also near the top of the promotional
list for Captain in the department.
A
firefighter’s funeral service was held in the chapel of
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home at 10 a.m. August 27th
and he was laid to rest at Oglethorpe Memorial
Gardens on St. Simons Island. Pete (known affection
ally as Pettie Wong) was known for his professionalism in
the work place and ability to get along with everyone will
be missed by his family, friends and co-workers.
Lt.
Walters, a native of Montgomery, Ala., had been a resident
of Glynn County since 1972. He had been a St. Simons
volunteer firefighter for about 3 years and was hired
full-time in 1980. He also held the director of
security’s position for the King and Prince Beach and
Golf Resort for the past 17 years.
The
honorary pallbearers were the St. Simons Island Volunteer
Firefighters, Glynn County Fire Department, Ballard
Volunteer Firefighters, Brunswick Fire Department and the
King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort security staff.
Over five hundred friends and family filled the funeral
home.
Survivors
include his wife, Diane Walters of St. Simons Island; two
daughters, Elizabeth Walters and Emily Walters, both of
St. Simons Island; a son, Mickey Walters of St. Simons
Island; his mother, Marsha Walters of Birmingham, Ala.;
his father, Peter Walters Sr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; a
sister, Cheryl Laricey of Birmingham; his paternal
grandmother, Edith Walters of Virginia Beach; and several
nieces and nephews.
