GLYNN COUNTY -- The end of June marks the time that firefighters across the state of Georgia can be seen collecting donations to help support the burn foundations in Georgia.  Personnel with the Glynn County Fire Department collected money at locations around Glynn county for three days.  On the mainland firefighters were seen at Wal-Mart, while on St. Simons Island firefighters were in the village near the pier and at Winn Dixie.

Glynn County firefighters were raising money to support the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, a foundation whose mission is to educate the public in burn awareness and prevention, to support medical facilities in the care of burns in Georgia, and to assist burn survivors in their recovery.  The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation is located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Glynn County firefighters, along with other firefighters across the state were also supporting another foundation as well, the Southeast Firefighters Burn Foundation, this foundation whose vision is to reduce the high incidence of burn and scald injuries in the Southeast by providing and encouraging others to provide in-depth and widely available information on burn prevention education.  Furthermore, the Southeast Firefighters Burn Foundation strives to insure that all burn survivors and their families receive the best medical care possible and are afforded the highest level of assistance with all basic human needs, both during and after treatment.  The Southeast Firefighters Burn Foundation is located in Augusta, Georgia.

This year the Glynn County Fire Department raised approximately 5,700.00 dollars.  These funds will be divided between the two foundations to assist with the many programs that the foundations support and provide.

On July 14, 2003 Charles Devaney, executive director for the Southeast Firefighters Burn Foundation was on hand during the FireSide chat radio talk show, aired Monday mornings at 10:00 am on 102.5 FM, to discuss the foundation.  while on hand Mr. Devaney also accepted checks from the Glynn County and Waycross Fire Departments.  Mr. Devaney also answered questions about the foundation and some of its programs.

Checks were also made out to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.  Those checks where mailed to the foundation.

Everyone involved with the fundraiser expressed gratitude to all of those who contributed.  Without the support of firefighters statewide helping with the boot drive, and without the support of all of those who made a donation, the foundations would not be able to offer many of their services and programs.
