2002 - The Atlanta Gas Light Company took out a full page
add in the Brunswick News on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 in
response to the serious leak which interrupted gas service to
over 3,500 customers in Brunswick, St. Simons, and Sea Island,
Georgia. The add
not only thanked their customers for their patience but they
expressed their gratefulness toward Glynn and Brunswick’s
public safety workers. It
read in part: “Without the valuable assistance of
Brunswick/Glynn County’s emergency and public safety
professionals, it would not have been possible to re-connect as
many people as quickly as was done.”
Their
thanks did not stop there. On December 19th the company hosted a banquet meal
at St. Simon’s King and Prince for all Public Safety Employees
and EOC staff that assisted in the gas leak and assistance in
the aftermath. Words
of thanks and praise came from the President of The Atlanta Gas
Light Company, Issic Blythers, and Mark Warner the
Communications Director. The
General manager of The King & Prince, Mikel Johnson spoke on
behalf of all the restaurants and businesses, which were
impacted by the gas leak.
That same evening, The Glynn County Commission invited
all employees who assisted with the crisis to their regular
Commission for words or praise as well.
Chief Carl Johnson was praised for the quickness in
starting the Emergency Operations Center on St. Simons.
Other Glynn County Fire Department Employees were asked
to stand in recognition. |
