Volunteer Chief Appointed

 

February 11, 2002

 

In a directive dated February 11, 2002, Glynn County Fire Chief Carl R. Johnson appointed 1st Assistant Volunteer Chief Joe M. Combs II to the position of Glynn County Volunteer Chief.  This appointment is being done in preparation for the upcoming ISO inspection that the department is requesting in the fall of this year.

 

Volunteer Chief Combs has served with the Glynn County Fire Departments’ St. Simons Island volunteers since 1993.  He has served as an officer in the organization since 1995 and moved up through the ranks to become the 1st Assistant Volunteer Chief in 1998.  Volunteer Chief Combs was selected for this position as the result of his record with the St. Simons Island Volunteers, his dedication to the department and his abilities to organize personnel, his leadership abilities and his ability to document and cross reference the activities of the volunteer divisions of the Glynn County Fire Department.

 

Volunteer Chief Combs’ duties are to include, but not limited to, insuring that all documentation necessary for a favorable ISO inspection are in place and properly filed.  Chief Combs will serve as liaison officer between the career personnel and both the Ballard Volunteer and the St. Simons Island Volunteer Divisions of the Glynn County Fire Department.
