Volunteer Firefighters Recognized

Volunteer firefighters and officers from the Glynn County Fire Departments’ Ballard Volunteer and St. Simons Island Volunteer Divisions are recognized and take oath of office during the volunteer recognition banquet held February 8, 2002 at the King and Prince resort on St. Simons Island.

 

The volunteer recognition banquet is the annual event during the year that volunteer firefighters and volunteer officers are recognized by Glynn County and presented with plaques showing their support for the dedication and hard work for the previous year.  In addition to the presentation of plaques for he previous years efforts, the volunteer banquet is the event at which the incoming volunteer officers formally take the oath of office for the new term.

 

Volunteer OathVolunteer of the year recognition plaques were presented to Roy Dickens representing the St. Simons Island volunteer division, and  R. J. Fernandes representing the Ballard volunteer division.  These two volunteers were selected by their piers for their dedication and advancement of their skills through out the previous year.  These two volunteers, through their dedication embody the fundamental essence necessary in any volunteer firefighter.  In addition, there were service recognition awards presented to the volunteers for dedicated service.

 

Following the award presentation, Glynn County Commission Chairman, Cap Fendig, presented the oath of office to the incumbent and incoming group of volunteer fire officers.  The volunteer fire officers from both volunteer divisions take oath of office for the 2002 term.

 

2002 volunteer officersIn addition to the recognition of the volunteers this years banquet provided the opportunity for the department to recognize some of the many volunteers that belonged to the organization when it was first created in 1952.  Additionally this years banquet marked the 50th anniversary of the Glynn County Fire Department protecting the laves and property in Glynn County.
